Washers, destoners and feeding equipment

Bigtem compact stone remover and drum washer

Compact stone remover & drum washer

A rotating perforated drum washes off soil while a stone trap below separates stones and heavy debris. One compact machine for potatoes, carrots, beets and other root crops.

Bigtem cyclonic stone trap and washer installation with platform

Cyclonic stone trap

Product is carried in water through a cyclone that drops stones and sand out of the flow. Used at the front of root crop and potato lines ahead of the washer.

Bigtem universal flotation washer with inclined discharge conveyor

Universal flotation washer

A water tank with impellers and air agitation that moves product through the bath. Floating debris is skimmed and heavy debris settles. For fruit, vegetables and leafy products.

Bubble washer

Air bubbles and adjustable water flow lift dirt off delicate products such as lettuce, spinach and herbs without bruising.

Brush and spray washers

Rotating brushes with spray bars for firm products that need surface scrubbing, such as carrots, sweet potatoes and cucumbers.

Bigtem lift-and-dump pallet box dumper

Bin and pallet box dumpers

Automatic bin dumping lines and lift-and-dump pallet box dumpers feed the washer without dropping product from height.

Bigtem stainless steel food transfer pump with feed hopper

Food transfer pumps

Cast stainless steel pumps move product in water between washers, peelers and cutters, replacing mechanical conveyors where water handling makes sense.

Where washing sits in the line

Washing in a processing lineProduct is received from bins or trucks, stones are removed, the product is washed, sorted on an inspection belt, then goes to peeling or cutting.1Receivebins, trucks2Destonestone trap3Washdrum or flotation4Sortinspection5Peel or cutnext processWashing in a processing line1Receivebins, trucks2Destonestone trap3Washdrum or flotation4Sortinspection5Peel or cutnext process

Clean, stone-free product protects the peeler, the cutter knives and the pumps downstream. On potato and root crop lines the washer and destoner are usually followed by a steam peeler; on fresh-cut lines by coring, slicing and drying.

Washing questions

Which washer is right for my product?

It depends on how dirty the product arrives, how firm it is and what comes next. Root crops usually need a drum washer and stone removal; leafy greens and fruit need gentle flotation, bubble or vortex washing. We recommend the combination after we know your product and line.

Can the wash water be re-used?

Yes. Bigtem designs re-circulation with screens, settling and filtration so most water is re-used, which is standard on tomato reception and root crop lines.

Do you supply the feeding equipment too?

Yes. Bin dumpers, pallet box dumpers, accumulation hoppers and even-feeding conveyors are part of the scope, so the washer always sees a steady flow.

Can a washer be added to an existing line?

Yes. Washers and destoners are sold as stand-alone modules and fitted to your conveyors, utilities and floor space.
