Automatic Corn Cutter and Corn Huskers

An all-electric automatic corn cutter with a built-in vision system: it feeds, orients and cuts sweet corn cobs and rejects unsuitable ones. Huskers and hand-feed cutters complete the cutting section.

  • Up to 130 ears per minute per cutter (Bigtem brochure)
  • No hydraulics: all-electric drives with self-lubrication
  • Vision system with reject options for damaged, oversize, unhusked or discolored cobs
  • PLC, vision and touch screen run on one industrial PC

How the cutter works

Cobs arrive on a feed belt and an orientation disc and belt turn each cob the right way. A flipper and feed disc deliver it to the cutting head. Each cob is counted and its position controlled by encoder and servo, so the cut point stays precise even when the conveyor slows or is loaded unevenly.

The vision functions run on the same industrial PC as the controls, and the touch screen shows live images, which simplifies troubleshooting and replacement parts.

  • Feed belt, orientation disc and belt, flipper and feed disc
  • Single-cable servo motors with IP65 connectors
  • Live camera image on the touch screen
  • Reject options set by the operator

Corn cutter questions

What is the capacity of the automatic corn cutter?

Up to 130 ears per minute per cutter, according to the Bigtem corn cutter brochure. Lines use several cutters in parallel.

Is it hydraulic?

No. The cutter is all-electric, with servo motors and self-lubrication.

What does the vision system reject?

Damaged, oversize or unhusked cobs, cobs with missing kernels and discolored cobs, depending on the reject settings.

What happens to rejected cobs?

They can be cut on hand-feed corn cutters so good kernels are not lost.

Do you also build huskers?

Yes. Single-channel corn huskers with even feeders are built to match the cutter line.
